The mantra that changes everything

00:00always do the hard thing. So if you stop and think about it, every single day you're presented probably with countless of choices and decisions you have to make. And life is really nothing but choices um and and decisions. Like if you think about it, every single thing you do on a daily basis is some kind of a choice or decisions or decision that

Life is just this: one fork after another

00:20you have to make. And every decision, every choice you make can be boiled down to an easy path and a hard path. And everything in general that you do in life can in can be boiled down to uh what's easy and what's hard. And every moment uh in your life literally every single moment uh this moment the next moment and so on is basically a fork.

00:40Um and you can either do the easy thing or the hard thing. And that's basically what life is in its rowest form. It's just a bunch of decisions uh and choices that we we get to make and we get to decide what's what those choices and

The lie 99% of people fall for

01:00decisions are. And all of those choices and decisions uh even if there are even if there are multiples of them, there's always easier ones and then there's the harder ones. And if you look around uh family, friends, colleagues, you know, acquaintances um if you just look at society in general, most of the people like 99% of people uh you'll easily come to to the conclusion that most people always do u what feels easier.

01:27Uh they always take the easier decision like 99% of the time. We're not talking about making the hard decision or making the hard choice when basically life has pushed them to a point where they basically have to do it. We're talking about when they have when they have the freedom to make a choice, when they have the freedom to make a decision.

01:48Most people will choose the the easy path. They will choose what feels easier, the path of least resistance in a way. Now,

Why we justify our worst choices

01:57a lot of them will rationalize it. They will explain it to themselves in every and any way possible that this is what they should do. uh and they honestly think that this is the right decision. Uh even though deep down they know that this is just the easy decision and it isn't the right decision necessary because an easy decision or an easy choice doesn't make it right.

02:15Uh 99% of the time 99% of the time it's quite the opposite. And so deep down everyone everyone knows that the hard choice is usually the best choice. And yet people choose to to do the easy thing. the the as I said the path fleece resistance and then they wonder why their life seems to be harder with every choice and every day they that passes and if you really think about it there's not one thing that you can point at that is hard to do and at the same time is bad for you.

02:52Most of the hard things, most of the hard decisions, most of the hard choices are usually the good ones. It is always the easy choices and the easy decisions

The shocking truth about what’s “bad” for you

03:01that lead to bad outcomes most of the time. It's rarely the hard decisions and the hard choices that lead to bad outcomes. Most of the time they they're just hard to make, but they lead to a more favorable outcome. And hard things are 99.99% of the time a net positive.

03:18If not for anything else, if not for the outcome that you get from them, then definitely for the fact that they are hard to do and they shape you into a person that basically does hard things on purpose which can infin can be infinitely valuable in terms of just how you see yourself in terms of your confidence and so on.

03:38So even if we take away the outcomes of those hard decisions, even if we take away the result of you making that hard decision and the good outcome that most likely has come out of that hard decision, even if you ignore that and you don't even take it into consideration, taking the hard choice and taking the hard decision and making the the doing the hard thing will always

Even if the outcome sucks, this still wins

04:00leave you better off. If for nothing else, if not for the outcome, then for at least the fact that you know for a fact you've done the hard thing and it's shaping you as a person that does hard things. And so this morning, for example, I almost skipped u my cardio and my body was a bit more tired than usual.

04:19I didn't sleep the best. Um I'm cutting weight at the moment, so I feel a bit more tired in general. And I've been doing it for months now consistently with no breaks. So, I basically had every excuse, but then I remembered, do do the hard thing.

04:32Uh, the time is going to pass anyway. These minutes, these hours, these days, they're going to pass anyway. But you can choose how it passes. You choose you can choose the outcome. You can choose the decision. And through that decision, you can choose the outcome.

04:46At the end of that time passing, you can either choose that you're prideful. You can either choose pride because you did the the hard thing or you can choose guilt because you didn't do the hard thing even though you knew you could. Every day you're presented with these choices.

05:03You can either do the hard thing or the easy thing. So what I did was I boiled it down. What's easy? Not doing the cardio. What's hard for me right now in this specific moment is actually doing it. And I got to choose whether I want to have the outcome of pride that I actually went ahead and did the the hard thing even though I didn't feel like it or whether I wanted guilt because I didn't do the hard thing and I knew I

Pride or guilt: the 2 outcomes you always choose between

05:31probably could have. So I got up, I trained, and I've basically finished the job. So, and that that win in that moment, just that confidence that I did the hard thing regardless of how I felt carried into the rest of my day for that day. So, every day uh you get to make hundreds of small decisions and choices and each one of them leads to different outcomes.

05:55Almost always you can boil it down to easy and hard and almost always the hard choice is the best one. Easy choices always lead to a hard life. And hard choices always lead to an easy

Why hard choices build an easy life

06:10life. And the path to to hell is basically full with pleasure. And the path to heaven is full with pain. Can you really always be that self-aware in every moment to notice what choices is harder or easier? No. Of course you can. Sometimes you're just going to be you're just going to be unaware.

06:29You'll have moments where you're just being unaware. You're not actually thinking about it. And that's that's completely fine. The idea is to first bring awareness to this as much as possible in your life. Um, and just knowing that every decision, everything you do has an easy choice and a bad and a hard choice.

06:45And secondly, the amount of hard choices you make over time need to just outweigh the easy choices you make over the long run. So the hard choices need to just outweigh the easy ones over the long term. The more hard choices you make, the more hard decisions you make, the more hard things you do, the better you will be over time.

07:06That doesn't mean that you always have to make the hard choice because sometimes you won't. Sometimes

What to do when you don’t feel like it

07:11you'll just be human and you'll make the easy choice. But if you can do that long enough and often enough so that the hard choices and the hard decisions and hard things you do in life outweigh the easy ones, then you're going to become a better person in general over the long term.

07:27And when you chase comfort, life will punish you. And sometimes you don't even know that that punishment is a result of a choice you made, you know, a week or a month ago or a year ago even sometimes. And when you chase uncomfortable decisions, difficult tasks, life most of the time rewards you.

07:42If not with anything else, then with just the power and the confidence in yourself of knowing you did the hard things. So if it rains outside, um go to the gym even if and especially when you don't really feel like it. If you're finding it hard

The rule that will upgrade every part of your day

08:00to reach out to 100 people uh for your business to 100 prospects, do it regardless. even if and especially when you don't feel like it. And if you're wondering whether you should watch yet another movie or yet another show on Netflix or read a book, well, read a book even if and especially when you don't feel like it.

08:19Do the hard thing even if and especially when you don't feel like it in general. Uh because time will pass anyway and one day your life will just be a reflection of every small decision you made when it was raining. So, do the hard thing and I'll see you in the next
